The Mac and Windows PC often use different words for the same thing. Here is a list of terms (and symbols) that will help you make sense of the Mac documentation.

Mac Windows Description
Command Key Command   Modifier Key; the primary modifier key on the Mac; usually corresponds to Control in Windows
Option Key Option or Alt Alt Modifier Key; usually a second level modifier
Control KeyControl Ctrl Modifier Key; less used on Mac than PC
Cap Locks KeyCaps Lock Caps Lock All characters are entered in UPPER CASE after this key is pressed; press again to toggle off the effect.
  Windows KeyWindows Key Brings up the start menu and also is used as a modifier key
Alias Shortcut A pointer to another file, folder, or application
