Website: Version Tracker
Version Tracker is a great site that lists all sorts of Mac software and the latest version for each. It’s primary role (based on its name) is probably supposed to be the version tracking aspect but for a newbie like me it looks like a wonderful place to discover new Mac software. That is also aided by their listing of the license (free, commercial, shareware, etc.) for each application.
If you go to the updates by category tab there are dozens of choices to find new software.
You have to register (with a confirmation email; why do they waste our time with that time consuming step?) to get access to the top downloads and editors picks categories. Maybe I’ll do it at some point when I’m on the hunt for new software but now for now.
There is a dashboard widget called App Update that will scan your system and find any applications that are out of date by looking at Version Tracker to see the latest version.
